The Triune God
John 17 is the only passage in the Bible where we get a look into the inner life of the Trinity. Christianity is the only religion in the world that believes God is triune—one being, eternally existing in three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), all equally God who know and love each other. In this passage, we’ll seek to answer two questions: 1) What is the triune God all about? 2) And what is life all about?
This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on May 14, 2017. Series: Jesus, Mission and Glory: The Lord’s Prayer for His Glory and Ours. Scripture: John 17:1-5, 24.

Loving someone out of duty or even gratitude satisfies our honor as decent people. In adoration you couldn’t care less about your honor or decency, and you know God didn’t on the cross and still doesn’t care less either. Also we go breathless over sunsets, but think that to love God we need to remember our duty?! Just take an honest look at him and you’ll be breathless for the rest of your life. And the world will go strangely dim in the light of his beauty and grace.

It’s like bing crazy inflatuated, in love head over hills. When your every action is happiness to the other, and theirs to you. As you are still acting their joy is already returning to you and so on... Between humans that is never exactly equally reciprocated so there is a huge risk of being hurt, but with God it’s perfect so you don’t ever need to hold back. The only hard part is to believe that this much happiness is actually possible. Well it is, it has been 25 years now.
