We’re looking at the characteristics— also known as the “attributes”— of God according to the Bible. Most of our problems stem from not knowing who God is or forgetting who he is at the moment.
One of God’s attributes is that he is the creator of all things. We’ll explore this attribute in Psalm 8, written by David. We’re going to notice: 1) The wonderful thing David saw; 2) The frightening thing David felt; and 3) The amazing thing David learned.
This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on January 16, 2011. Series: To Know the Living God; The Majesty of God. Scripture: Psalm 8:1-9.

Our Covenant God
Wednesday Feb 02, 2022
Wednesday Feb 02, 2022
We’re looking at the characteristics— also known as the “attributes”— of God according to the Bible. One of God’s attributes is that he is a covenant God— He is a God who makes covenants, and he is a God you can only relate to through covenants.
We will unpack what this means by noting three things: 1) What the covenant is; 2) What the new covenant solves; and 3) How it changes and transforms us.
This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on January 9, 2011. Series: To Know the Living God; The Majesty of God. Scripture: Jeremiah 31:31-34.

Monday Jan 31, 2022
In John 17, Jesus is specifically praying for his current and future disciples, and in these verses, we see Jesus’s desire for the world to know that God sent him to save us. In these verses, we’ll see 1) What we most need; 2) How to get it; and 3) What the outcome will be.

Unity
Friday Jan 28, 2022
Friday Jan 28, 2022
John 17 is the “great prayer” of Jesus— his prayer for his disciples before he goes to die on the cross. In this prayer, Jesus very directly prays for both his current disciples and his future disciples— the Church. The main thing Jesus asks for is that his disciples be joined in loving unity. This sermon will examine what it means to be united by the love of God in Christ.
This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on June 18, 2017. Series: Jesus, Mission and Glory: The Lord’s Prayer for His Glory and Ours. Scripture: John 17:20-23.

The Church
Wednesday Jan 26, 2022
Wednesday Jan 26, 2022
John 17 is the “great prayer” of Jesus. In this message, we will look at Jesus’s prayer for the Church— the disciples in the room with him, but also his future disciples. We are going to look at what Jesus says about the church and what it ought to be— and what we as Christians ought to be.
We will notice four things about the church: 1) It’s crucial; 2) It’s countercultural; 3) It’s inexplicably attractive; and 4) It’s the company of the forgiven.

The Triune God
Monday Jan 24, 2022
Monday Jan 24, 2022
John 17 is the only passage in the Bible where we get a look into the inner life of the Trinity. Christianity is the only religion in the world that believes God is triune—one being, eternally existing in three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), all equally God who know and love each other. In this passage, we’ll seek to answer two questions: 1) What is the triune God all about? 2) And what is life all about?
This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on May 14, 2017. Series: Jesus, Mission and Glory: The Lord’s Prayer for His Glory and Ours. Scripture: John 17:1-5, 24.

Holy Father
Friday Jan 21, 2022
Friday Jan 21, 2022
John 17 is one of the most astonishing passages in the Bible. There’s no other place in the Bible where you actually get any insight into an actual conversation inside the Godhead, between Father and Son.
Jesus is praying to the Father on his deathbed, as it were, and what is the main thing that is on his mind? It’s us — his disciples, present and future. Here we have Jesus asking the Father for five things for us: 1) Truth, 2) Unity, 3) Joy, 4) Mission, and 5) Holiness.

Jesus’ Prayer for All Time
Wednesday Jan 19, 2022
Wednesday Jan 19, 2022
We’ve been looking at what the Bible says about prayer and spirituality, and this message concludes the series. We are examining the Lord’s Prayer — the one place in the Bible where Jesus himself is asked about prayer and spirituality. It’s the richest single source of information in the entire Bible on how to pray, not because it’s a case study of someone praying, but more that it’s a model of true prayer for everyone.
We’re going to take a look at this under three headings. 1) What you must have before you pray; 2) What you must do as you pray; and 3) The key to getting them all.
This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on November 25, 2007. Series: Real Spirituality - Prayer and Beyond. Scripture: Matthew 6:5-15.

David’s Prayer at Death
Monday Jan 17, 2022
Monday Jan 17, 2022
We are going through a series of case studies on prayer and spiritual encounters in the Bible. This great prayer, which comes at the very end of David’s life, gives us a fascinating message about the whole subject of spiritual encounters. The message is that giving — or financial generosity — is a key component in true spirituality and in a real spiritual encounter with God. This is what we’re going to see as we look at this passage and put it in the context of David’s whole life and, therefore, the rest of the book of 1 Chronicles.
We’ll see three things as we study the passage: 1) What David wanted for his people; 2) How David gave it to them: and 3) How we can have even more of it than they did.
This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on November 18, 2007. Series: Real Spirituality - Prayer and Beyond. Scripture: 1 Chronicles 29:6-20.

Paul’s Prayer for Experience
Friday Jan 14, 2022
Friday Jan 14, 2022
We are going through a series of case studies on prayer and spiritual encounters in the Bible. This message explores the greatest stack of model prayers in the New Testament — all found in the epistles of Paul. Paul’s letters are filled with prayers, and they are probably the biggest single stash of prayers in the New Testament that will help us understand how to pray.
The message of this particular prayer in Ephesians is that you should expect and seek profound, life-changing spiritual experiences of the love and joy of God. If we take a look and study the passage, we’re going to see: 1) Why we need it; 2) What that life-changing spiritual experience is; and 3) How to receive it.
This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on November 11, 2007. Series: Real Spirituality - Prayer and Beyond. Scripture: Ephesians 3:14-21.

Heman’s Cry of Darkness
Wednesday Jan 12, 2022
Wednesday Jan 12, 2022
We are looking at a series of case studies on prayer and spiritual encounters in the Bible. This message is from the Psalms, which is the prayer book of the Bible. In the Psalms, there are many prayers by people who are suffering and who are asking God for help, asking God for rescue, for relief.
This is a psalm that ends without hope, and has “darkness” as its last word. What is a prayer like this doing in the Bible? There are four messages this psalm teaches us: 1) Spiritual and personal darkness can last a long time no matter what you do; 2) Times of darkness are often the best places to learn about God’s grace; 3) Times of darkness can sometimes be the very best situation for you to grow into someone of greatness; and 4) Darkness can be relativized.
This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on November 4, 2007. Series: Real Spirituality - Prayer and Beyond. Scripture: Psalm 88:1-2, 6-18.

Monday Jan 10, 2022
Monday Jan 10, 2022
We are looking at Biblical case studies of prayer and spiritual encounters. This message centers around the encounter that Hannah, who eventually becomes the mother of the prophet Samuel, had with God.
We will examine: 1) The anatomy of Hannah’s pain; 2) The change in Hannah’s heart; 3) The secret in Hannah’s song.

Moses’ Prayer for God
Friday Jan 07, 2022
Friday Jan 07, 2022
We are looking at a series of case studies of prayer and spiritual encounters we find in the Bible. This message explores maybe one of the most famous and also one of the most astonishing prayers and answers in the Bible — an encounter between God and Moses.
What’s going on with this prayer? The answer is profound. We will examine 1) Moses’ prayer for our glory; 2) Moses’ prayer for God’s glory; 3) God’s answer to all of the prayers.
This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on October 14, 2007. Series: Real Spirituality - Prayer and Beyond. Scripture: Exodus 33:12-23; 34:5-8.

Jacob’s Prayer for Joy
Wednesday Jan 05, 2022
Wednesday Jan 05, 2022
Although prayer and spirituality are very popular in our culture, we will see that what the Bible thinks about spirituality and what modern people think about spirituality aren’t necessarily the same things at all.
We are exploring Biblical case studies of people who had authentic and life-changing encounters with God. Today’s message looks at what happened when Jacob encountered God. How do you know that you don’t just believe in God, but that you’ve actually met him? If you meet God, according to this text, 1) You must meet God alone; 2) You must meet God for blessing; and 3) You must meet God at the point of weakness.

Abraham’s Prayer for the City
Monday Jan 03, 2022
Monday Jan 03, 2022
What does real spirituality and connection with God truly mean? Real spirituality is knowing a God who comes to you and changes the way your heart works.
We are exploring Biblical case studies of people who had authentic and life-changing encounters with God. This message centers around the dialogue between Abraham and God. What do we learn from this text? Three things: 1) How Abraham prayed; 2) Why he was able to pray like that; and 3) How we can get what he had and more.

The Bridegroom
Friday Dec 31, 2021
Friday Dec 31, 2021
We are looking at how Jesus defines what it means to be a Christian. In this message, we are exploring the idea of Jesus as a Bridegroom. We know from reading the Old Testament that God defines himself as the Bridegroom and his people as the bride.
What does this mean for Christianity? It means that: 1) Christianity is a bond that consists both of duty and love; 2) Christianity is a bond of completing love; 3) Christianity is a bond of absolutely permanent love; 4) Christianity is a bond of utter exclusiveness; 5) Christianity is a bond of ravishing love.

Mercy, Not Sacrifice
Wednesday Dec 29, 2021
Wednesday Dec 29, 2021
We are looking at the account of the tax collector, Matthew, coming to Christ. By looking at how Jesus brought Matthew to himself, we are laying out important principles about what it means to be a Christian. A Christian is someone who is called by a force outside themselves — both called away from something and called toward something. In this message, we will focus on what we’re called away from.
Jesus says you can’t be a Christian unless you’re willing to be called away from religion. In this message, we’ll see 1) What religion means; 2) How Jesus smashes that definition; and 3) Some tests to see the extent to which we’ve moved away from religion.

Christ Calls Us to Himself
Monday Dec 27, 2021
Monday Dec 27, 2021
It's been taught that Christianity is basically like other religions — but Christianity is like nothing else. Everyone who has really become a Christian has had a sense of being awakened from some kind of sleep by an outside force. You thought you understood Christianity, but now you realize, "How radical! How new! How different!" A radical change has to happen inside.
What does it mean to be a real Christian? A real Christian is someone who is called. What does it mean to be called? 1) You sense a power coming in from outside taking charge; 2) You are confronted with a person, not a lot of intellectual ideas; and 3) You rise and follow him.

You Shall See Heaven Open
Friday Dec 24, 2021
Friday Dec 24, 2021
The beginning of the book of John doesn’t talk to us about the facts of Christmas — it tells us the meaning of Christmas. This passage from John 1 shows us that the meaning of the coming of Christ is tied to an incident in the life of Jacob. According to this text, the message of Christmas is that the heavens have been opened for those who have been humbled.
We will break down the two aspects of this message: First, that the heavens have been opened, and second, that the heavens have been opened for those who are humbled.
